About

Who and How

My work with the acting program at University of Illinois connects me primarily with actors and performers whose emotional journeys and personal habits can interfere with their ease to take up the space of the stage. That said, I heartily believe that AT can be helpful to all aspects of the work of theatre including arts administration, stage management, designers, technicians, educators, and directors. By challenging our habits, we can all enhance our craft to create a more receptive and available theatrical experience. Some of my favorite demographics include
-
stage combatants
-
stage managers
-
sound and costume designers

Dramatic Tension = Theatre
Beside my work with theatre students and professionals, I have a heartfelt advocacy for connecting with mothers-to-be and parents to help navigate their transformative journey. I became a mother in 2022 while deep in my AT teacher training and it solidified for me the necessity to embrace and hone my listening to my ever changing sense of self. I believe Alexander Technique can help address challenges of tension, both emotional and physical, to the stimuli of the pregnancy, delivery and post partum experience. I look forward to collaborating with new and soon to be mothers to help find ease, grace and balance on your journey.

Dramatic Tension = Motherhood

Dramatic Tension = Traveling Artists
Over the past 20+ years, I have become uniquely familiar with the hardstyle work that performers and crafters at renaissance and craft festivals endure with daily and weekly repetitive actions over months. This includes the personal wear and tear of driving multiple states in a day, the rush of set up and tear down and the long festival hours on your feet in whatever weather is on the docket. Let's work together to hone a sustainable personal practice to undo performative tension so you can do it for weeks, months, seasons and years. We can find a way to not only do it, but do it without undue strain.
About
My history with Alexander Technique
I first encountered the Alexander Technique at the CTM Theatre and School as a young child actor in Madison, Wisconsin. I really enjoyed how the stillness and expanse of constructive rest led by Nancy Thurow helped calm my frenetic high school brain that was electric with anxieties. Many years later, the Alexander Technique re-arrived into my life during another electric chapter: navigating my grad school experience at the Dell'Arte International School for Physical Theatre in Blue Lake, California. While there, I met Joe Krienke, who would eventually lead me through my training to become an Alexander Technique Teacher. I also during my grad school experience got to learn from Joan Schirle and Philip Gertze. I found it interesting to learn of the various branches of the Alexander Technique tree, with each branch honing their specific lineage tactics and interpretations of FM's writings. Some of it was "drama" in its own sense, but all branches still aiming toward one goal: grounding into support to free your tension and redirecting and undoing your habits to rediscover your effortless alignment that has been waiting for you all along.
